Nu Life TV Antenna in 2021: A Year In Review

In what was a somewhat disjointed year, impacted by the stops and starts of a pandemic fuelled rollercoaster, Nu Life TV Antenna is very proud of its team’s ability to continue improving and expanding its service to all of our valued customers.

Commercial Team

Nu Life’s Commercial Team underwent a step-change in 2021, with growth on a level never before achieved in its 40 year history. Our electrical contractor customer base has expanded almost 3x fold and we are very grateful for all our partners, large and small. More than anything, we are excited by the team’s ability to continue satisfying our clients with our 100% service level targets, whilst taking on a large number of additional projects.

On top of the huge performance in 2020 to complete 25+ projects, the Commercial Team has delivered 70+ projects in 2021. These projects are mostly an expansion of our core MATV / SMATV design, supply and installation services, however, also includes a number of mobile reception enhancement projects successfully delivered to new development sites throughout the year. In total, services were delivered to over 2,500+ tenancies. Some of the project highlights for 2021 include:

  • Residential Development: delivery of a GPON, integrated Foxtel/FTA system to 330+ apartments at twin residential towers in Macquarie Park;

  • Underground CATV: supply and installation of a new WISI Chameleon headend at one of Sydney’s largest underground residential based CATV systems in Newington, covering 500+ houses and multiple apartment buildings;

  • Social Housing: completed design, supply, installation and commissioning services for an integrated Foxtel/FTA SMATV System to over 170 apartments at a Social Housing development in Mount Druitt;

  • Aged Care: installation services for a 80+ bed aged care site in Oran Park;

  • Commercial Upgrade: upgrade from air-core cable to Foxtel Multistacker, integrated Foxtel + FTA SMATV system at a 30+ storey commercial building in Sydney’s CBD;

  • Commercial Base Build: full design, supply, installation and commissioning services for a commercial base build in Surry Hills;

  • Mobile Reception: RF Walk test services at Australia’s tallest residential building, located in Sydney’s CBD;

  • A long list of new construction sites (terraces, residential apartments, townhouses, etc) with less than 50 tenancies requiring an integrated Foxtel/FTA SMATV system.

We are very thankful to each of our clients and are appreciative of every project we have been provided the opportunity to work on in 2021!

Domestic Team

The Domestic Team provides urgent as well as regular scheduled maintenance work to a wide range of customers including residential dwelling owners, real estate agents, building managers and strata managers (and the occasional tenant as well).

The members of this team are always on call and provide a very important service to a large quantity of customers. In a year which exhibited a heightened importance placed on daily TV news coverage, getting reception fixed in a hurry was more important than ever. Our thanks goes out to each member of the Domestic Team to ensure a fast, friendly and efficient service in a busy year.

All in all, the Domestic Team fielded over 30,000 enquiries, which was a significant uplift on recent years and reflects the hard work and effort of each of the long-term members of our team.

Looking Ahead Into 2022

In a year that will likely prove hard to predict, we don’t believe in making too many forecasts.

Rather, we want 2022 to be another year in which we challenge ourselves, a year that we can look back on (in 12 months time) and know we have made progress, know that we have given it 100% and know that we have provided the very best service to each and every one of our customers.

TV Antenna Installation Bondi – 15ft Mast

15ft Mast Installation Bondi - Antenna

Today, we are looking at a fairly straightforward TV Antenna Installation in Bondi, using a 15 foot guyed mast. The customer previously had their old TV antenna guyed mast rust out and subsequently fall onto their roof. Thankfully it didn’t do any significant damage to the roof, however, it is a good warning to those of you who have a rusted mast on top of your rooftop!

Before Installation

15ft Mast Installation Bondi - Before

All masts and mounts are normally exposed to the elements. Particularly in areas that are close to saltwater, there is damage to masts and mounts that results in rusting of equipment. As a general rule, large masts like this one (or larger) should be checked every 12-24 months, as rusting can sometimes result in catastrophic outcomes.

Thankfully, in this case, whilst the 15 foot mast fell over, there was no significant damage to the customer’s roof. However, in the past, we have seen mast swing off rooftops and into windows below, or sometimes even hit cars or other objects next to the house.

Our customer was lucky in this case, and we were able to install a brand new shiny 15 foot mast with a VHF antenna directed straight to the Artarmon transmitter.

Looking much better! This TV antenna installation in Bondi is completed with a new VHF antenna, a new 15 foot mast, new guy wire, turnbuckles, base plate, lock ring, thimbles and all the other little bits and pieces required to complete the installation.

We have a very happy customer with perfect digital TV reception!

If you require a TV Antenna installation in Bondi using a 15 foot mast, or any other type of mast or mount, feel free to give us a call or send an email outlining your requirements and we will provide you with the various options available to suit your needs.

International Satellite TV – 3m C-Band Dish Installation

3m satellite dish

In this case study, we will outline a recent project we completed in Sydney’s CBD for a long-time client to upgrade their C-band satellite dish. We also outline the options available for customers to receive free international TV channels by installing a C-band satellite dish.

3.0 Metre Satellite Dish Installation

The building manager at this 50 storey apartment building in the middle of Sydney’s CBD called Nu Life TV Antenna to provide a free quote to fix international Chinese TV channels at their building. With a large number of international occupants, the building had received over 10 Chinese TV channels for many years.

Following recent bad weather (possibly including hail), it was clear that the existing mesh satellite dish was damaged beyond repair. There were a number of holes in the mesh and the arms supporting the LNB had been broken loose.

Nu Life TV Antenna provided a free quote to replace the damaged dish with a new 3.0m heavy duty mesh satellite and a new dual output LNB with an in-built 5G filter. Once given approval, Nu Life TV Antenna completed the physical installation within 1 week, which was an exceptional turnaround given the only 3.0m satellite dishes in the country had to be shipped from interstate.

A 3.0m satellite dish is a big dish! The 2 man team that completed the installation was able to make use of the existing dish mount (not damaged) and one existing cable run to the headend in the communications room on the level below.

Distribution To Apartment Building Occupants

Once the physical installation was completed, the QPSK to COFDM Terra transmodulators were required to be re-programmed. Given the previous installation used an ‘OCS LNB’ (ie a One Cable Solution used to stack Vertical polarity transponders on a higher Horizontal frequency), the new Dual Output LNB delivered Horizontal and Vertical polarity transponders on separate cables.

With a new cable run completed, the input frequency on the Terra tdx311c modules (part of a Terra MMH3000 headend) were adjusted to ensure all channels were restored and multiplexed into the building’s existing SMATV system.

Using the building’s existing RF distribution equipment (also used for a KU band and digital Free To Air TV), the Chinese TV channels were integrated and distributed to all TV points in the 50 storey building.

In this case, the C-band dish was pointed to the AsiaSat 6B satellite, which is located at 115.5° East, with the satellite dish Azimuth & Elevation from site: 308° & 35°.

Channels received with the modulators provided included:

  • Fujian TV
  • Hunan TV (multiple channels on the single transponder mux)
  • Shanghai Media Group
  • CCTV (China Central Television) channels CCTV 2, CCTV 17, CCTV 10, CCTV 11, CCTV 12, CCTV 15, CCTV 4 Asia, CGTN, CGTN Français, CGTN Español, CGTN Russkij, CGTN Arabic, CGTN Documentary
  • Henan TV

Free International TV Channels

Whilst it has been more popular in years gone by, there are still a large number of unencrypted free TV channels available to receive via satellite. There are C-band satellite dish channels and KU-band satellite dish channels available to anyone based in Sydney (or Australia for that matter).

Without providing a full list, LyngSat provides a relatively up to date list of all channels that are able to be received. At the time of writing, this list includes channels from the following countries:

  • China
  • Korea
  • Indonesia
  • India
  • Portugal
  • Spain
  • France
  • Russia
  • Many other channels available
If you are interested in supplying some or all of these channels to the residents in your building, in the majority of circumstances Nu Life TV Antenna can make use of the building’s existing RF distribution infrastructure to ensure the channels can be delivered to all occupants at a very affordable cost.

If you would like to learn more, feel free to give us a call or send an email outlining your requirements and we will provide you with the various options available to suit your needs.
