Many residents in OptiComm estates will have recently received a letter advising that Free-To-Air (FTA) television delivered over the fibre network is being phased out.
OptiComm has outlined two separate cut-off dates, depending on the area. After the relevant date for your estate, residents have been advised that Free-To-Air TV will no longer be available through OptiComm’s fibre cabling.
Why Is This Happening?
Our understanding is that OptiComm may be retiring older technologies in order to expand broadband capacity. Unfortunately, this means the Free-To-Air signal carried over fibre is being discontinued. While streaming apps are an alternative, they require fast, stable internet and don’t always replicate the simplicity of switching on the TV.
For households who still value traditional Free-To-Air television, the most reliable solution will be to return to an outdoor antenna-based setup.
